Today’s speaker was Klaus Rittenbach from Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL).

Klaus is a graduate of Princeton University, having spent most of his career working on various electronic communication technologies such as radar and videoconferencing.  After retiring in 2011 as an electronics engineer, he joined Citizens’ Climate Lobby as a volunteer.  He works with them to raise awareness about what he sees as one of the most pressing issues of our time — climate change, and he works towards putting effective legislation in place to speed the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots advocacy organization focused on national policies to address climate change with over 300 chapters worldwide.  They are currently working for the passage of Carbon Fee and Dividend, a proposed climate change solution to speed up the change from fossil based fuels to clean renewable energy based upon the following – It puts a steadily rising fee on carbon-emitting fuels, at the source, where they are first introduced into the economy. 100% of the revenues are then returned directly to households, in a monthly dividend check.

Klaus used an in-depth power point presentation.  He was accompanied by Lyn Dash, Group Leader, Lincroft Chapter CCL.  For more detailed information, go to the CCL website: www.citizensclimatelobby.org

The 50/50 was won by our new member, Ellen Kopar.

Christine Hanalon, Monmouth  Counties clerk, talked about what the county clerk does. She believes the  most important job is maintaining property records.  The County Clerk job was written into the New Jersey constitution. They are trying to become more modern and digitalize everything. The Clerk’s office generates $55 million every year in fees with 33 staff members. A large portion, 44 million goes back to the state, the rest goes back to the county.
The Clerk’s office records trade names for all businesses in Monmouth County.  They are also responsible for passports, which generate 1/2 million every year into the county budget.
This includes county archives, which are available on line.
The County Clerk’s office has a trust fund from $2 from every transaction,  this is used to update all the equipment they use.
40,000 people are using paper ballots this year, over 11,000 have come in so far.  The ballots cannot be opened until the day of the election. A bipartisan committee oversees the ballots.
A lot of great questions were asked. “Orange” you glad?

50/50
Denise

Well, guys and gals, you’re not going to have old Happy Horton to kick around for the next three months.  Boy, doesn’t that make you all sad?  I mentioned that at the meeting today, and there just wasn’t enough Kleenex to go around.

Good lunch of pork loin with green beans, roasted potatoes and pencils.  Barbara was just beside herself with the decadent chocolate cake.  Chocolate cake, chocolate icing, and chocolate sauce dribbled over it.  I understand that it was dietetic, however.

If we aren’t the walking wounded.  I don’t remember a time when more people were having health issues.  Warren enjoyed his surgery so much, he is going to let them operate on his other leg and hip.  Then to rehab.  Don is in the hospital for surgery, Bill is just back home from a procedure, and Al Campanella is also in the hospital.  We are way over budget on the sunshine cards, but I do hope everyone is recovering and will be back with us soon.

Guess what?  There is a golf outing on Monday at Deal Golf Club.  Addie is working furiously getting the gift baskets finished, and Jack is busy getting his on-site workers lined up.  Let’s hope it is a great day. Let’s also hope I play well.

There was a Bored Meeting last night, but Ken won’t tell the club what went on. This Sunday, some of us are going to help at the Crop Walk.  I have managed to miss this event for years but the Tinton Falls Club is helping and my wife dragged me into it.  It is only for an hour or so at 12:15. Call Addie for more information. November 5th is the “Stop Hunger Now” event from 11:00 to 1:00 at CVR in Eatontown. November 17th, 18th, and 19th, is our Can-A-Thon and Denise brought sign- up sheets to the meeting.  Three days at three locations is going to be tough. Ken announced that the club would not be meeting on November, 24th, Thanksgiving.  Good planning Ken.

Happy $$$ started with Harriet that she was still upright.  I gave for Dave being at the meeting, the great RLI program we had last weekend, and for my being away for the next three months.  That brought so many more happy dollars from people being happy that I would be away.  No Respect. Darren is going to his fraternity party this weekend and Lou donated $100 for his winning the 50-50 pot two weeks ago.  Dave gave $20 for all his missed meetings, and Rhonda gave just because she was happy.  A Rotarian guest, Joe Marino joined us and gave a buck, because he is joining the District 7500 E Club.

Our Vice Prez, Doug N. admitted that it was his wife’s birthday, and was so pleased to tell us that it was her 40th birthday. Doug, that was real bright.  I can see him at PETs in two years.  Hope Bill is still teaching the remedial course.

Our speaker for the meeting was Les Patterson from Gambler’s Anonymous.  He talked about it being the hidden addiction because there were no outward signs of the compulsion.  Les has been going to meetings for the last 11 years, and considers himself recovering.  My understanding of what he was saying was that the program is similar to Alcoholics Anonymous in the way the members reach out to support each other.  It certainly is a problem that most of us don’t think about.

Darren was the winner of the 50-50 at the meeting and took home $25.

That’s it for me guys and gals.  Barbara will be back with you next week trying to keep you up to date.
