There are a lot of club members working on the District level.  Our next district Governor is Harriet Primack.  The next District Conference will be in Point Pleasant NJ, May 2, 2014.  Shelia wanted to make sure that it was affordable.

Lunch at the Oyster Point: the much missed caesar salad followed by roasted pork, mashed potatoes and  green beans ( no veggie bundle).  Dessert was a delicious brownie topped with non-melting ice cream?

There was a very poor turn out today, it was embarrassing.  Rotary has to pay for a certain number of lunches regardless of who shows up.  The point of raising money is not to give away for lunches that are not eaten! (Publishers note: The club uses funds from the Operating Account (your dues) to make up the difference in minium lunches not met as well as speakers lunches)

From American Heart Association. She left information on table about strokes.  They have a company fit site, for a fit friendly company.  A life style change award can be given to a spouse (for stopping smoking). National Eating Healthy Day is on  Nov 1, try to change your  eating habits.  A lot of information is on their web site.  Latinos, African American and Pacific Islanders have a higher rate of stroke. Heart disease is number one killer in America and stroke is second.  The number one defect in babies is in the  heart.
Eat heart healthy diet, exercise, watch your cholesterol and blood pressure.

Hey, Hey, Hey, guess who’s back in town.  You got it, adorable me, and I am ready to increase your mental stimulation with another thought provoking issue of the COGs.

The Prez started the meeting, and we sang “God Bless.”  Joe G prayed for us, and we 4-wayed.  How about the chicken?  Was that special?  No, I didn’t think so either.  Last Thursday at Zone, sure enough, chicken for lunch.  It’s the Rotary Bird.  For dessert we were served vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup with what I think was granola.  It was forgettable.

This Club would be broke without Sgt. Jim.  My notes show he raised eight or nine dollars in fines.  Rob, Bill, and Rob again, Tony, and Chuck were fined for various misdeeds at the Club’s Bored Meeting. And yes folks, that’s spelled correctly. Robin got clipped for another picture in the paper, and people were fined for having multiple badges in the box.  That Sgt. is creative.

It was Addie’s birthday, and she wasn’t there.  Denise was, however, and her wallet is a bit lighter.  Frankie Mazza and Rob Sanders are celebrating anniversaries this week, and they were relieved of some of their excess cash.

Happy $$$$$.  Jon started it off for the Jets wining more than the Giants, which isn’t hard, and for America winning the America’s Cup races.  Harriet gave for being back from Zone and for our DGN, Dave Forward being with us.  I contributed two bucks for the same reasons. Barb gave for my being back, and I was surprised that other people didn’t jump on that and give more.  Actually, the Prez did give for Harriet, Dave Forward, and my being there.  That was a nice warm gesture, Bill.  Not sincere, but nice and warm.

Announcements were that the RLI meeting this Saturday is cancelled, but there will be one on October 5th in King of Prussia, and another one on October 12th in Montvale.  Try and sign up, it is well worth the day and the Club pays.

The Vocational Assembly is Monday, October 7th at the Pines in Edison. Registration begins at 3:30pm, the program starts at 4:00pm and includes dinner. November 1st is the District Foundation dinner in Toms River at the Clarion, and the new RI Vice-President, Ann Mathews, is the featured speaker.  This is an event that you want to go to.

Dave Forward was our guest speaker for the meeting and what a wonderful presentation he made.  Dave is our DGN and will follow Harriet as District Governor.  He is a member of the Medford Sunrise Rotary Club and is its founder.  He participated this year in a National Immunization Day (NID) in India, and he has written a number of books about Rotary.  His current book, as yet unpublished, is on the 100 years of The Rotary Foundation.

Dave spoke to us about Polio Plus and traced its Rotary history from 1985.  Since that time, Rotary has donated over a billion dollars towards ending polio, and Bill Gates has given Rotary some $355 million in the fight.  There is a current drive to have Rotarians give to Polio Plus and Bill Gates will match two dollars for every dollar that a Rotarian gives.  Dave spoke passionately about the dreaded disease and its effects on children.  He concluded by saying that it was not about the money that is given to Polio Plus, it’s about the children in the world that can be saved.

Just as a side bar, at Zone this week, the participants raised some $35,000 for Polio Plus.  A really great effort.

Old and I mean old, Lou Bona won again and took home $25.  TTFN.
