Today we honored Mike Toscano for fifty years of perfect attendance.  Frank came up to the podium and talked about Mike Toscano in his honor of his  fifty years Rotary.  The club gave Mike an engraved  watch and had cake in his honor.  Several members told stories about Mike.  All the past presidents said something about Mike. I think the most important thing about Mike is that he has Rotary attitude.   This is a person who conducts himself following the 4-way Test at all times, who is humble, does not flatter wealth or boast of his own possessions or achievements.  Mike speaks with frankness yet always with sincerity and sympathy. Deeds follow words, and Mike thinks of the rights and feelings of others. This Rotarian always appears well in any company and is a person whose honor is sacred.

The “True Rotarian” is the foundation of Rotary – always there, contributing to the current Rotary activity and by any Rotarian’s measure, is the life blood of Rotary.

50/50: Agnes, the pot continues to GROW!
Horton is taxed these days, so I will be taking over the Cogs for a while.  Lunch was sausage and peppers over rice? With veggie bundle...dessert was interesting?  No comment!

Today our speaker was Pete McCarthy, he is the unit coordinator at Sandy Hook and the father of twin eleven year old girls.  He has been with the park  system for 22 years, four years at Sandy Hook.  Established in 1972 Sandy Hook, receives over 2 million visitors per year.  There are over 2000 acres over a seven mile peninsula. More than 100 structures are on the National Register of Historic Places.  Oldest operating light house in US was built there in 1764.
The initial housing  lease effort failed.  They have received over 40 responses ranging from Bed and Breakfasts to residential as of Oct 2013. They are putting together an RFP to see where they should go with this process regarding future leases.  The Park is continuing work on Sandy Recovery   which mixes it in with redevelopment.

The 42nd Annual Vince Lombardi Awards Banquet

The 42nd Annual Vince Lombardi Awards Banquet was held on March 6, 2014 at the Sheraton Eatontown Hotel. The ceremony honors a lineman from each Monmouth County high school football team. The individuals selected to receive this special award best exemplify the traditions, beliefs and ideals of the legendary coach Vince Lombardi. The Lombardi committee also selects and honors a 'Coach of the Year', a 'Team of the Year' and a football player to receive the coveted 'John Tuggle Award' for overcoming extreme adversity, dealing with overwhelming challenges and yet still succeeded.

HISTORY - Originally started by the Rotary Club of Houston as a national award on the college level, the Rotary Clubs of Monmouth County received special permission from the Lombardi family to present this awards program on the high school level.

SUPPORT - The Lombardi Banquet Committee would like to thank everyone who has contributed to make this special awards program an annual success. By supporting this event you are demonstrating your commitment to our community.

Since 1973, the Vince Lombardi Awards Banquet has received much publicity and recognition, partly due to the well known sports figures who have participated in the event. The funds raised from this event have aided the fight against cancer through the American Cancer Society, supported the many community service projects of the Rotary Clubs of Monmouth County, and have helped the Center for Vocational Rehabilitation to fulfill its mission of self-respect and social independence for people of special needs.

RECOGNITION - Special thanks go to the many volunteers from the Rotary Clubs of Monmouth County and the Center for Vocational Rehabilitation. The Lombardi Awards Banquet takes months of planning and preparation. We also want to thank the head coaches and their assistant coaches who give so much of their time to train and mentor their teams not just with the skills of football, but in the life principles as exemplified by coach Vince Lombardi.

Individual clubs that have contributed to make this annual banquet a success include:

Rotary Club of Asbury Park
Rotary Club of Belmar-Wall
Rotary Club of Freehold
Rotary Club of Long Branch
Rotary Club of Matawan-Aberdeen
Rotary Club of Red Bank
Rotary Club of Spring Lake-Brielle
Rotary Club of Tinton Falls
