Meeting News...
COGS 11/21/13
Hi there Boys and Girls.  Just some quick notes to remind you that Red Bank Rotary is still at the Molly.  Also, a reminder, Red Bank Rotary won’t be at the Molly next week.  I can see Ken Duffy showing up on Thanksgiving and wondering where everyone is.

Anyway, the Prez was back with us, for a change, and rang the bell.  Because of Teddie’s absence, he jumped right to the pledge, Chuck’s prayer, and the 4-Way Test.  He didn’t need to look at the 4-Way Test banner, but I understand he writes it on his hand before every meeting.

One of my favorite lunches of hanger steak was spoiled by those little mushrooms the Molly added to the meal.  Dessert was interesting in that we had a raspberry pyramid.  Not my favorite, but I didn’t see any reason for all those calories returning to the kitchen, so I ate it.

Mullevey was back at it, fining outstanding Rotarians, so naturally, he picked on me again. He feels compelled to do this to me every week. This fine was for a picture of four of us in the paper, representing Rotary, and all wearing Rotary pins.  You would think that would get us some credit but no, not at all.

Old Don Steel didn’t find anyone that had a birthday or anniversary.  Robin, however, was honest enough to admit to her 42 birthday.  The Prez made us all sing “Happy Birthday” without Teddie.  It was terrible.  No just bad, terrible.

Happy Dollars started with Gloria giving money for the great job Steve did on her back.  Naturally, that cost Steve also.  Robin chimed in that Steve had worked on her husband, Jim, and for the first time in a long time, Jim slept through the night.  Ken gave a dollar because now he is thinking of going to Steve.  It certainly was a Steverino Day.  Denise gave money for everyone volunteering for the Can-A-Thon, and Chuck gave money for his 2.3 grandchildren celebrating their birthdays.

Mike DeNofa reminded us that the “Bell Ringing” is set for the 20th and 21st.  The Lombardi dinner is March 6th and the Food and Wine is April 28th.  The District Conference is May 2-4.

The Prez announced the slate of Officers and Directors for the new year would be Denise for Prez, Rob for Prez Elect, and Mike DeNofa for Vice President.  The three new Board member will be yours truly, Don Steel, and Walter Perry.  That is unless there is a write-in, and I don’t get the necessary votes.

The program for the day was AUSA or Association of the United States Army.  The speakers were Sam Fuoco and Jorge Martinez, from the organization.  Both men are retired Colonels from the armed forces who volunteer their time to promote this organization that assists veterans in finding vocational opportunities.  I feel remiss in that I was not aware of the organization and Jack Chesbro indicated that he had been a member for over 50 years.

As well as assisting in finding positions for the Vets, the organization promotes the advantages of hiring Veterans to employers and makes the companies aware of both state and federal tax incentives that are available to them if they hire and keep Veterans as employees.  It was an interesting program.

I don’t want to tell you who won the 50-50 AGAIN, but his initials are Lou Bona.

OK gang, that’s it for me until the middle of December.  Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.  And remember Ken, no meeting next week.
COGS 11/14/13

Hey, what’s going on with our Rotary Club?  I come back after four weeks off, and I walk into a room of 21 Rotarians and no program for the meeting.  I recognize that speakers need to cancel or have emergencies every now and then, but normally we fill in the time with some good stories.  I hate to say this people, but the situation with the club is serious and it behooves all of us to get back with the Rotary program.

Denise rang the bell after waiting for Rob Sanders to sign in so he could claim he was here on time.  The Rev. Chuck returned thanks and gave thanks for the veterans that have served our country.  It was a nice prayer to mark the occasion of Veterans Day being celebrated this week.

Lunch was a rather good pork loin stuffed with apple, raisins, and cranberries.  Hopefully nobody complimented the chef, or we will be back to having chicken.  The dessert was “Passion Fruit Crème Brule”.  You know, there are just some combinations that are never going to work, and this was one of them.

Big Jim came around with his normal fines for the meeting.  He started out fining Addie for not introducing her guest, a lady named Lynda Rose.  Apparently, Lynda works with the Chamber.  In any case, it was good to have you with us, Lynda, come back and visit any time.  Next, Jim picked on Rob Sanders for getting to the meeting on time.  Jim noted that it was the first time since Jim has been Sgt.-at-Arms that Rob has heard the bell and sang “America”.  I got hit for money for being absent for so long.  Actually, I was in Prague and attended a Rotary meeting there.  I brought back a banner and guess what, they served chicken there also.  Don gave money for either wearing or not wearing his argyle socks, and Frank gave money because he was late.  You just can’t win with Jim.

It was surprising that anyone had money left to give for Happy Dollars.  Lou, Frank, Jon, Chuck, and Lynda gave money for various things, which I didn’t write down.  Frank took the opportunity to fine anyone who hadn’t given a card out to a restaurant in the last 48 hours.  That raised some money.  Come on Frank, 48 hours?

Addie announced that the “Rotary After Hours” will be held at Molly Maguire’s next Tuesday at 5:30.  Addie can’t be there, so sister Denise will host.

Remember that next week is the Can-A-Thon.  If you haven’t signed up, get in touch with Addie or Clark to participate.  Mike DeNofa had a sign-up sheet for the “Bell Ringing” which will be held on December 20th and 21st.  The sign-up will be on line by the end of today.  There are a total of 34 slots, and it is always fun to double up.

Jon picked up some sheets from Lunch Break that indicated what gifts are needed at Christmas for some needy families.  We can make a donation to the Foundation toward this project or give cash.  Give checks to the Foundation, I don’t trust Jon with cash.

Gloria Bohinski was the 50-50 winner and took home all of $20.

That’s it for now, kids, and remember, “Engage Rotary”.
