Installation Dinner
6:00 PM
Salt Creek Grill
Rumson, NJ
Chuck started off the meeting at 7:00 PM.
Al Campanella said a prayer which gave thanks for Denise that she should have the strength for the next year.
Chuck then asked Bill Donnelly to come up and give out this year’s Paul Harris Award, which went to none other than Jim Mullevey, who Bill said was unanimously voted by the committee. All previous Paul Harris fellows came up and stood before Jim. Congrats. Indeed, Jim! You certainly deserve it. Bill S. came up and said a few cute remarks preparing Jim for the year ahead. Lots of more joy to bring around and for a fine fellow, indeed. However, it cost Jim $1.00 for wearing a tie and being there to accept the award…from when I studied accounting, that amounts to $2.00, so Jim, next week, you’re the first for $2.00!!
Jim so humbling and warmly came up and gave a lovely thank-you talk which was from his heart. He said he never thought he would receive this award and has grown to respect and love everybody in the room. He said that this is so very special and that he will treasure this for the rest of his life. As witnesses, his dear Maria and lovely son Patrick were there to support him, along with his daughter-in-law and in-laws, et al. What a lovely family. Jim specifically paid thanks to them for their support.
Bill Donnelly gave praise for President-elect Denise. He aid that it was his privilege and honor to serve the club, and has been one of the best times of his life. He thanked his dear Sue for all her support during this year. Incidentally, welcome back from China, Bill.
Installation – Harriet gave a lovely talk about transition and Bill Donnelly’s past extraordinary service to the Club and Board. She asked that the new Board members come forward and get sworn in, which they did, and specifically to observe the rules and traditions of Rotary. The Club approved saying, “we do” and all applauded.
Bill Donnelly then passed the gavel and charger to Denise, and then Chuck presented her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
Denise:
- Thanked Bill for his past service and support, and
- Welcomed us all to celebrate a new year of Rotary and new members of the Board, and
- She thanked the club and Addie for all their support, and
- She made a profound statement by saying that, “…the best place to loose yourself is in the service to others…” .
- We should reach out to non-members and ask them to join.
Chuck then announced that the centerpiece on each table goes to the person with the nearest birthday. Dessert was being served and Chuck presented Bill with a plaque and gavel for his service this year as our president. He thanked all of us for attending.
The main courses were delicious as were the horse’s ovaries (can’t spell it in French) and the desert. A grand time was had by all and shortly before 10:00 PM the place had almost emptied. We should only have such a good event next year at this time.

Our Vice-Prez Denise started the meeting at 12:16 PM, at the Oyster Point Hotel
Bill S. said a prayer for what we had, what we have and what we will have, and also for the Foundation.
Food:
The radicchio salad would have been less bitter if they had not put the radicchios in it; the dressing was very good and necessary. The main course consisted of roast pork loin, mashpees (either short for mashed potatoes, or…the inhabitants of the Cape Cod town of Mashpee) and veggies. Desert came rather late…actually after the meeting ended, which was ice cream atop apple compote.

Bill started off the meeting at 12:16 PM after hearing some spectacular show tunes played by our Teddy, including medleys from A Sound of Music.
Chuck…said a lovely prayer thanking our guests, the student scholarship recipients, who are the future of America.
Food:
We were lucky to have a delicious salad with sherry vinaigrette dressing, chicken parmesan with mashed potatoes and an extraordinary slice of some kind of cake that I can’t identify.
Guests:
In addition to our scholarship winners, Susan Goldring from Tinton Falls joined us, telling us about the TF Club’s 5K run and scholarship, and that all proceeds will benefit the Swimming River Library and some programs in Haiti and Guatemala.
Fines:
I think Jim’s power is going to his head. It’s become quite costly for us each meeting with Jim’s sharp, intuitive system of issuing what are more like summons! Maybe soon he will take credit cards! Here goes: Susan G. for speaking to long; Barbara Nevius, Tony, Walter, Larry, no pin; Walter, no badge; Robin, late; Mike T. wearing Rotary watch (what was he supposed to wear…a Lion’s watch?); Mike and Mike…doing business at dinner time; Addie and Denise, too many vegetables on their plate; Don for not knowing about the famous Jack Chesbro Yankee; Frank…for no darn reason and Bill D. for doing his job too slowly.
