Stories
Well here we go boys and girls; the big “H” is finishing out the Cogs for the year.  It is only fitting that we end the year on a high note.

Hey, what do you think, the Prez ended the year by starting the meeting late.  It didn’t matter, nobody cared. You know, she is half way through her year, and if the impeachment committee is going to act, it needs to get started.

Teddie came through with some wonderful holiday songs that we all enjoyed.  She was joined by Holly Horn, from the Ocean Grove Violin Academy for a number of the pieces.  We are so blessed to have Teddie with us each week.  We are the only club in the District that has entertainment during our meetings, and it really adds to our enjoyment.  Harriet tells me Mt. Holly may also have a pianist but certainly not as well as Teddie.

We celebrated the birthdays of Sue Donnelly and John Bohinsky.  John wasn’t with us, so Gloria graciously contributed the two dollars.

Sgt. Jim made the rounds and fined many of us for trivial and unnecessary infractions.  Jim has started to simply fine the entire table when he can’t pick on just one individual.  This club should be rolling in money.

Happy $$$$ were started by Barbara, who gave money for her favorite, (and only) grandchild spending time with her.  Many of us gave for the great Holiday Party that we had on Tuesday and for the wonderful wait staff that served us.  Old Don even gave a sad dollar for not being able to attend, and I gave a dollar for each person that missed me while I away.  That didn’t raise any money at all.

Bill Donnelly announced that Lunch Break will be the recipient of our Food and Wine event this year.  They always come out and support us for the event when they have been the selected charity.

Don’t forget that on Saturday, January 31st, that there will be a District Membership Seminar at La Bove Grande which is on Route 70 in Manchester. Satya Mitra is our dynamic speaker from CT. who brought in 55 new members into his club in one year.  Mike Colasurdo and his membership team will be on hand to give us some good ideas on increasing membership.  This year it is going to be in the morning rather than in the evening.  The membership seminar replaces the “Mid-Year Assembly” that was conducted in the past.

Rotary Mid-Year Assembly: Reserve NOW for one of the greatest events of this Rotary year!

We were treated this meeting with classical music by Holly Horn.  Holly brought with her a former student at the Ocean Grove Violin Academy, Loren McEwan and a professional cellist, Elaina Lang.  The music was just lovely and perfect for the Holiday Season.

Holly shared with us that she was given a new old violin by her father.  She indicated that they bought a French violin due to the fact that the finest Italian instruments were exorbitant.  Her violin was made in 1834 and she indicated that the cost was equal to the car of one’s dreams.   I don’t think she was thinking about Fiat 500 either.

Gov. Harriet was the lucky winner of the 50-50 and took home $15.

No Meetings for the next two weeks

Speaker:  Chuck Watson introduced his son-in-law, Jason Hoffman as both the man who both makes great grandchildren for him and Mary, and is an expert in the field of marshall arts.  Jason is a member of our Red Bank Satellite Club.

We were honored today to have Jason, who is a 3rd degree black belt and a marshall arts instructor at his own school.  He formerly worked for Tiger Schulmann, but left them to start his own business a few years ago and is very happy being his own entrepreneur. Jason showed us several ways to release both a front and rear chokehold, should one be terrorized by such.  He also talked about physical and mental health, including diet and exercise to maintain a positive body image.  Jason said that inasmuch as he has a slight build that a thug has never approached him, most likely because of the body language he portrays when he walks.  He also gave us some safety tips when in public places.  Our membership was truly captivated by Jason’s talk and he was greatly applauded and asked to return soon again.  Thank you again, Chuck and Jason!

50/50 of $20.00 went to Mike Toscano

Meeting ended at 1:25PM
