Horton and Chuck were our guest speakers and they talked about RLI.  They gave us some  background on RLI’s leadership and development program to strengthen Rotary.  It is a three part curriculum.  More than 300 districts offer this program.  It develops leadership and team building and gives you an international perspective.  It will make a  you a better person and helps you to be a better person.  We have four facilitators in our club, thee most of any around.   You can get a wealth of information about service projects from other clubs.  The next class is at the Holiday Inn Oct 10 route 70 Cherry Hill, registration at 7 am, opening session begins at 8 am and the cost is paid for by the club. The relationship between Rotarians is one of the most important things that you learn.

Thank you Horton and Chuck for stepping up at the last minute!

50/50
Lucky Lou

2. Most of us wear our pins and no outsiders ask about it.

3. Pointers to boost membership were discussed, as follows;

a. Use newspapers – such as large, full-page ads

b. Become the “get to” club

c. Need a champion for a project

i. Somebody mentioned that it appeared that there are several members who could fit this requirement.

4. During the general meeting Harriet further noted:

a. These three categories need be addressed carefully

i. Membership, Service, Public Image

b. Work we do at local level helps Rotary International

c. Need more work at club level

d. District Conference will generate more information

e. The District will be starting a Foundation mainly to accommodate smaller clubs who wish to donate and don’t have their own foundation.

50/50 of $20.00 went to Rhonda, who so graciously donated it back to the club.  Thank you, Rhonda!

Speaker:  Today’s speaker was PDG Mike Colosurdo, who spoke about membership.  He said that we have to look to the future rather than to reflect on the past.  We have to set goals for membership, goals, etc., five years into the future.  He stressed that it is not important what we did…but rather what we can do.  Mike gave three very powerful pointers that we should consider: (1) what do I belong to? (2) Why am I here? (3) Why do I stay?   He indicated that young people are the future of Rotary, and not one, but 4-5 so that they have the beginning of their own connections.  We should start a new club RIOTT-Rotarians in their twenties and thirties.  Develop and share a plan on how we wish to grow Rotary. In his final words, he so eloquently said that, “…the commonality of Rotarians is the love of humanity…’.

Mikes talk was indeed, profound and it was gratifying to see that everybody was fully engaged.  Thanks, Mike for giving us such wonderful and meaningful guidance.

(Ed. Note – I often hear one or two members talking about, “…we did it last year, so that is the way it should be this year…”.  I had to take exception to this recently and remind one person that it doesn’t matter what was done in the past, but what we can do in the future.  I think this is directly the thinking that Mike suggests that we change…which is a difficult process for some, but must be done.  Please let us be mindful of this.)
