Well Guys, the big Pot is still available. Good old Jon was the winner of the daily drawing and took home $45 and the six of diamonds. There are now eight cards, and the joker. See you next week, Larry.
What a great mix of people joining us for the meeting. We had three invading Long Branch Rotarians including the Prez, Mika Hon, PE Brian Berry, and a new member Barb Youdach (sp.). Also we welcomed back returning Rotarians Mike Bey, who has had a real rough year, and Joanne Rountree, from the Community YMCA. Joanne brought with her the CEO of the Y, Rhonda Anderson. It was great to see Joanne and Mike, and even the Long Branch contingency. We hope that Rhonda gets back to see us soon as well.
The Prez rang the bell, we sang and pledged, and Bill S. returned thanks. By the way, nice prayer Bill. We 4-wayed, and then we were on to lunch.
The Molly offered us hanger steak with the normal extras, and finished off the meal with cranberry upside down cake. It was different.
Jim is occupying more and more of the meetings with his outrageous fines. Ken and the Prez were hit for their outfits. Long Branch all got fined, and the late comers, Addie, Rob, Joe, John and Gloria all contributed. Chuck contributed for not wearing a pin and also for selling stock that doesn’t exist. Remember Tea Pot Dome. Robin was hurt skiing, but Jim fined her anyway.
The Prez seems determined to have us sing each week so we all sang Rotary. What a treat that was. Bill, don’t do that when we have so many guests, it’s embarrassing.
The Prez contacted Don Steel and informed us that Don must be feeling better because he is almost back to being his old cranky self. Anyway, Barb from Long Branch had a birthday, and St. Kathy Saloukas had a birthday. Dave Ferullo and Susan celebrated their 43rd anniversary and Rob and Joan (Sweetie) Sanders celebrated their 17th.
Boy did we have Happy $$$$$. I really can’t write up each of these, but suffice it to say, there were some great ones. Robin, Ken, Mike, Lynda, Mika (LB), Joe G., Rob, Harriet, Warren, Frank, Jon, Gail, Denise, Joanne, Bill S., and Jim all contributed from one $1 to $20. Come to think about it, I believe that Rhonda from the Y even chipped in. It was reported that Liz Panella is home from the hospital & rehab. She sends her regards and welcomes hearing from any of us.
Joe Greca inducted Noah Carpenter into our Club. Now get this, Noah graduated from high school in 2009, graduated from St Joseph Univ. and is now working in the PR department at Riverview and Bayshore Hospital. Noah singlehandedly reduced the average age of our club members by five years. Noah, great to have you join us, you will be a big asset to the club.
There were a number of announcements, some of which are important, and I missed some of them. I believe there is a Board meeting next week, and the Lombardi Dinner is on March 6th . There are two RLI sessions, the first on March 28th in Cherry Hill and the next is the following week at Seaton Hall in West Orange. RLI is a great way to increase your knowledge of Rotary. Take the time, go online to RLINEA.org and sign up. The club pays.
Our annual Lincoln Fix was again presented to us by Glenn LeBoeuf, our local Lincoln scholar, This must be Glenn’s fifth or sixth time he has been with us to entertain with pieces of history. I think Lincoln is his favorite although he does a pretty good job on FDR also. The topic for the talk for the meeting was Lincoln’s relationship with his soldiers, and the respect and love that his men showed to him. That love and respect was reciprocated by Lincoln. Glenn gave us a number of great stories illustrating the point. As always with Glenn, a good program.
OK, everybody. Have a great week, and bring a buddy to Rotary. TTFN.
