You’re not going to believe this Gang, lucky Larry won again today. Now, he only took home $15 but he hasn’t tried to draw the joker yet. Larry, pick the joker and double your money.
We had a good group of students with us for the meeting and a smattering of Rotarians. We sang, pledged, Chuck prayed and we 4-wayed.
In honor of the students being with us, the Molly brought out their best (?) meatloaf. In fairness, of all the meatloaf that the Molly has served to us, this was one of the best. It tasted like chicken. The meal was, however, finished with their Crème Brule, which is always very good.
Very few fines for the day, but it was nice to see some of the long absent Rotarians. Mike Warshaw took some students and then joined us, and Clark Mulheren brought his young daughter with him. Clark’s wife has just come home from being in the hospital for the last ten weeks. Back with us after hip replacement surgery was Ken Duffy. It was good to see all of them, and Jim didn’t miss a chance to collect a few bucks from each of them for being away for so long. Jim makes it so long absent members are really glad to come back.
I couldn’t keep up with the Happy $$$$, but the following people gave; Tom, Ken, Doc, Mike W., Jon, Rhonda, Clark, Addie, Joe G., Robin, Lou, and the Prez. Most everyone gave for the bright young people that we had with us for the meeting.
As it turns out, John Bussa, our speaker, has the distinction of being Jim Mullevey’s long lost roommate from college. It was such a distinction that John didn’t want to mention it, but Jim did
John is the Director of the Monmouth University Center for Entrepreneurship. He has been with us before and as a reminder, teaches the Monmouth students how to start and run businesses. He brought with him some of the ideas that his students had put into production, and they were quite good and original.
He handed out to the students “12 Keys to Success” and “7 Common Negative Thoughts You Should Never Have”. Both of these were very good, but John didn’t have enough time to fully explain them to the group. If the students will study the handouts, they will benefit from them.
Remember, some important dates: Next Monday, the 28th is the Food and Wine at Branches. May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th is the District Conference in Pt. Pleasant. May 17th is the District Assembly at the Enterprise Center at Burlington County College and June 19th is the Club’s Installation Dinner at Salt Creek Grill. Finally, July 11th is the District’s Installation Dinner at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Jackson, where our very own Harriet Primack will become District Governor.

It finally happened. Larry Thoma picked the Joker from the last three cards, and won the big pot. Now, consider this, Larry has spent more than $2K to win some $1,700. How would you like this guy doing your taxes? Anyway, congratulations Larry, and we will see you next year.
The Prez opened the meeting, and we sang, pledged, 4-wayed and Chuck prayed. The meal offered by the Molly was a very good hanger steak, which they proceeded to ruin by putting mushrooms over it. Desert was a very nice chocolate chip cookie sundae.
My thanks to Barb Mullen for taking over and writing the COGs while I was intellectually absent from Rotary for the past three months. She does a great job. The problem is, people, I am going to be spending more and more time in FL. Barb needs some help writing these pages. How about someone who can get on a word processor and who can hear, step up and give Barb a hand.
The Sergeant did his normal amount of fining starting with Jon for being late. The next one was great, he fined Steve for leaving to go on a vacation to, get this, Climax, NC. You can imagine the comments that got. I wanted to know if his wife was also going, and Jim clipped me a buck for that one. (PUBLISHERS NOTE: I've been in Climax WITH my wife for a few days now, and I must say, it's been quite an enjoyable experience. If you have never been to Climax, I suggest a trip is in order, sooner rather than later.) Larry’s cell phone rang, probably from his bookie, and Jim was offended at that. Warren came dressed in his lumberjack outfit, and Jim didn’t feel that was appropriate. Mike Toscano, who normally gets fined for being late, was on time, so Jim fined him for being on time. It’s tough to win with Jim.
My lovely wife Susan has a birthday today, the 17th, so Don thought I should pay again. That was the only celebration and fortunately, we didn’t sing.
Happy $$$$ included Barb being glad that I was back. She was in a minority on that, but it’s always nice, even if one person is glad you are back. Jon gave two bucks, one for his wife being away for the week, and the second for his blind dog not being run over in the street. Rhonda gave for it being Easter, and Addie gave for something. Both Mike and I gave for surviving another tax season. Mike has had the opportunity to survive far more tax seasons than I have. Finally, the Prez wrapped it up by giving $3 for spending the weekend in Vegas, Lunch Break being with us, and wishing everyone a Happy Easter.
The next big event is the Food and Wine on April 28th. We are late getting this put together, and we need a BIG push in selling tickets. The District Conference is the first week in May in Pt. Pleasant. The District Assembly is on May 17th in Cherry Hill. June 19th is our Club’s installation dinner, and July 11st is Harriet’s installation. Put that on your calendar, it will be a nice event at Eagle Ridge Golf Club.
Next week is Career day, and Addie will be in touch with you if you have signed up to take a student. On June 5th the scholarships will be awarded, and June 12th is the day we give out the grants from the Foundation, and July 21, is the Golf Tournament.
We had the Lunch Break with us for the meeting and to put on the program. Gwen Love, the Executive Director was there with Kate McMahan, the Development Director. Mark Brahney, the President of the Board was there, and he filled us in on what Lunch Break is doing now and what plans they have for the near future.
Just a few facts, Lunch Break serves over sixty-five thousand hot lunches a year. They serve over eight hundred families who pick up food from their pantry. Each is given three bags of groceries a week. Also there are a large number of pick-ups of clothing from their supply. Lunch Break is a really good neighbor to the Red Bank Community.
Currently they are on a capital fund raising campaign to raise some five million dollars, primarily to construct the 6,000 square foot addition to their existing structure. The organization was given the two properties next to their building, and Red Bank Recycling donated the demolition of the two houses located thereon. They have currently raised some 2.2 million for the project and will start construction within the next month.
Their budget is approximately one million a year and they accept no money from any government entity. All funds are raised privately. Mark took the opportunity to mention that over the years, Red Bank Rotary has donated over $100,000 to the organization from the Food and Wine and from the Foundation. He did indicate, however, that they would accept more. It was a nice program given by nice people.
Hope those of you celebrating had a nice Passover and that a wonderful Easter is enjoyed this Sunday.

Chuck is our speaker and he gave us great information on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The following were established:1935-social security, 1965-Medicare, 1965-Medicaid. Chuck gave a brief and informative history of health care and plans /ideas that tried to pass. The new law requires that everyone have health insurance purchase or pay a penalty. There are 4 levels of care: platinum which pays 90%, gold 80%, silver 70% and bronze 60%. There will be a new 3.8% federal tax increase and a reduction of the amount insurance pays to Doctors and hospitals. This new program could lead to the largest income tax increase ever. Massachusetts healthcare program is 5 years old. They have found that many doctors have opted out of ACA and that half the Doctors want cash only. Families with incomes under $24,000 will receive Medicaid. Other families will have to pay for some form of insurance. Hospitals are now motivated to opt out of insurance company networks because they receive less in the form of insurance reimbursements. The upside of the new insurance act is that it will reduce medical bankruptcies, the leading cause of bankruptcies in the country. A lot of information....great job Chuck!

Gary Siciliano gave a report to members on the Gift of Life District 7500. Some facts are:The mission of Gift of Life Foundation is to provide free medical services to children in third world countries. The Gift of Life Foundation was started in 1995. They have saved over 600 children's lives through the Foundation from just our District(7500). In the past we were focused on bringing children to the US, now we are involved in sending a highly trained medical team over to the countries. We fund the International Children's Heart Foundation and Gift of Life International.
You can go on the web site-www.rotarydistrict7500giftoflife.org to donate money.
