Speaker:  Bill Donnelly spoke on two topics: Rotary Leadership Institute and his Gift of Life Mission to the Philippines.
RLI – strengthens Rotary clubs; provides education, collaboration and exchange of ideas; develops future and current leaders.  This is facilitated by experienced faculty members; engages participants to share success, have open discussions, engage in problem solving, and provides for creative roll playing.  RLI is about leadership development, Rotary knowledge, exchange of ideas, member engagement, and service project leadership.  Sessions are one day per class, generally from 8:00 AM-3:30 PM, have approx. 6-7 topics, about 50 minutes per class and usually held on Saturdays, but sometimes on Fridays.
GIFT OF LIFE MISSION- Bill talked enthusiastically about the roles the various people on the mission had, including medical people, support staff, patients, etc., and showed a tremendously strong and attached involvement in the program.  We saw a wonderful slide show that augmented Bill’s presentation.
A Rotary Global Grant funded this project.  There were about 58 children operated upon for heart defects, ranging from small ones through mid-teens.

50/50 of $20.00 went to Rhonda.

Tell-A-Joke:

Speaker:  Hev Saing is a Rotarian and member of the North Philadelphia club.  He spoke to us about a book he authored, Cash In On Your Differences.  He has a master’s degree in Project Management and his undergraduate degree is in architecture from the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He is also a certified PMP (project management professional).  He is presently writing a second book, and is the president of Be Your Best Self, LLC. His talk today was titled, Your Differences Are the Key to Your Success.  Some of the main points Hev made were:
  • What makes us different is our inner character, appearance and often we try to be something we are not
  • Key to success is being different
  • Passion is necessary for success
  • Talent your are born with and needs to be enriched
  • Passion is more important than talent
  • Equally important is to respect others because of their differences
