FOOD & WINE TASTING EVENT

Background of Food & Wine Tasting Event:

Since 2001, each April, the Rotary Club of Red Bank through the club's Foundation has run a Food & Wine Tasting event to benefit a charity in the greater Red Bank area.  Organizations that have benefited from this event in the past are: the Community YMCA, the VNA of Central New Jersey, the Parker Family Health Clinic, the Monmouth County Arts Council (MCAC), Love INC, Jewish Children and Family Services, Collier Services, Holiday Express, HABcore Inc. and Lunch Break.

Responsibilities of the Rotary Club of Red Bank
 
 The Rotary Club of Red Bank through the Red Bank Rotary Foundation:

  • Arranges for the facility and its set-up the night of the event,
  • Develops, prints, and mails out contracts, brochures, invitations,  and response cards,
  • Solicits the participating restaurants and beverage vendors*,
  • Develops and solicits for an ad journal*,
  • Takes responsibility for the overall ticket sales*,
  • Advertises and promotes the event,
  • Takes responsibility for collecting funds,
  • Tracks the tickets,
  • Pays the expenses, and
  • Arranges for all the details that go into the making of a successful fund-raising event.

*These are responsibilities shared between the Rotary Club of Red Bank and the recipient of the proceeds. 

Procedures & Criteria for Applicants:

Any organization that is interested in being the recipient of the proceeds of the Food and Wine Tasting event must:

  • Be an approved Internal Revenue Service 501 (c) (3) charity,
  • Be registered in NJ with the Division of Charities,
  • Complete the application which is attached, and return it to the Red Bank Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 8444, Red Bank, NJ 07701. 

To be considered, an organization must be able to accept certain conditions and responsibilities for the event, which include:

  • Providing their mailing list to the Red Bank Rotary to be used only for mailings for this event.  As an alternative, the organization may make the mailings themselves, directly to their patrons.
  • Taking responsibility for selling one third of the approximately 350 tickets to the event.
  • Assisting in obtaining ad journal sponsors
  • Assisting in generating publicity for the event.
  • Designating a person within their organization to be the liaison and work with the Rotary Food & Wine event committee. 
  • Designating a staff person and providing the use of the organization's telephone number to answer inquiries from the public about the event.
  • Attendance by the organization’s Executive and Development directors and a representative number of Board members at the current year's event to see the event and gain an understanding of its workings.

Prior to an organization being selected, an interview will be conducted with individuals from the organization and Trustees of the Foundation. 

Selection of the recipient is done by February of the year preceeding their event.
