Hi Gang.  I just thought that before I leave for Florida, also known as “God’s Waiting Room”, I would treat you to a little more of my humor.  I am sure that Bill is reading this and thinking, “Yeah, very little”.

Anyway, the Prez, what’s his name, opened the meeting, and we sang, and pledged.  Chuck returned thanks and then Darren suggested that we have a moment of silence for the tragedy that occurred in Las Vegas.  After the moment, Bill also asked for a moment of silence for our District Governor’s mother, who passed away on Wednesday.

The menu for the day consisted of a mixed green salad and a pork flat iron steak with veggies and potatoes.  Aah, but the dessert was the piece de resistance. It was a chocolate-coffee mousse cake, and Harriet even gave up her fruit bowl to partake.  It was good, but it was also very, very rich. I don’t think anyone at the table could finish theirs.

Then it was off to singing, “You Are My Sunshine”.  There is no other way to describe the singing, but that it was terrible.  Guys, you really need to rethink adding singing to the agenda.
We had a guest.  Her name is Karyn Lambert, and she is with the Kearny Bank, in Little Silver.  I hope she will come back and visit again.

Fines were ever evolving as more and more Rotarians wandered in late.  They included Harry and Jim M. and the two Schwartz.  Apparently, Jon and Jay had car trouble.
Happy dollars were light for the meeting.  Someone gave three sad dollars, but I didn’t catch the who or why.  I gave $10 because I am leaving for FL, and that encouraged Harriet to give $5 and Bill to give $1 for the same reason.  Darren also gave, but again my hand ear coordination was not working well.

Some Announcements: RLI is going to be on the 14th of this month in Marlton and on the 28th in Montvale.  You know the club pays for this, and it is a great day to learn about Rotary.  SIGN UP.  The District “Thanks for Giving Dinner” is November 3rd.  Bill announced that it was now official that District 7500 and District 7640 are merging into District 7505 with 82 clubs and 2,200 Rotarians. It is happening next year, and Bill will be its first Governor. That is a lot of ground to cover.  He won’t be finished making his annual visits until sometime in 2020.  October 28th is the District’s Rise Against Hunger project that will be held at Manasquan Fire House #2.  I missed the last one, but everyone said it was a fun event.  Come out, bring your family, and help people in need.  The last item is that the Crop Walk is being held on October 5th.  Come out and help Addie.

Our Speaker for the meeting was Amy Thomas, the development coordinator for the Monmouth Day Care Center.  The Day Care Center was started almost forty years ago in 1969.  The center takes children from the ages of six months to five years old.  Their goal is to provide high quality child care for a modest cost.  90% of the families that use the center receive some sort of government subsidy.  The Center, however receives no government funding, and relies on fund raisers and donations for their operating budget.  Some of us remember that Red Bank Rotary worked to paint the interior of the Center. Amy, come back and see us anytime.

Harry was the 50-50 winner and picked the two of spades.  I think he took home some four dollars and fifty cents.

One other last-minute announcement.  Freehold Rotary doesn’t know it yet, but we are going to crash their party on October 26, from 7 to 11.  Our meeting will be cancelled that day, and I hope somebody tells Navesink CC. They might also want to mention it to the Molly.

At the club assemblies that were held, a number of people indicated that they enjoyed receiving the Cogs. I think it is great to receive them also, so I got off my butt, and wrote them this week.  It doesn’t take much, people, to do this.  Don’t think about doing it, don’t plan on doing it, just do it.  That’s what this club needs most of all.  It’s for people to take individual responsibility for getting new members, for running fund raisers, for getting speakers, and for making a difference.  Just do it.

I will now climb down from my soap box, and wish you all a good next four months. TTFN.
